The Academy Hawaiian Music ensembles provide an introduction to the history, culture, practice and performance of Mele Hawaiʻi. Students learn a varied approach to music making, including learning by ear kanikapila style and reading from basic charts. The core instruments of instruction are ‘ukulele, guitar, bass, and voice, with the addition of other instruments typical of the genre. All students participate in informal and formal performances throughout the year. No prior musical experience is required.
