  • Instrument and Voice (Group Classes)

Group instruction is available for guitar and voice. Additional group classes in music theory are designed to supplement students' private lessons.
  • Chamber Music Program

The Chamber Music Program is an extension of the Music School and Music Department Orchestra program. Students, who are selected by audition, have the opportunity to participate in a chamber music group and work with professional musician coaches. The coaching faculty are active chamber music players, many of whom are also members of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra.

The program is supported through the generosity, vision and enthusiasm of private donors. Scholarships and endowments fund weekly coaching sessions, as well as performance workshops, master classes and guest artist visits.

  • Suzuki Violin Program

Founded in 1990, the Suzuki Violin Program at Punahou Music School is based on the educational philosophy and mother tongue approach of the late Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. The Suzuki approach is ideally suited for beginning violin students, ages three to seven, and provides a rich musical environment for continuing violin students as they progress through all levels of development.

Parents who are interested in enrolling their children (preschool-grade) in the program are required to actively participate in the weekly lessons. The Suzuki method requires considerable family commitment, parent participation, active involvement in weekly lessons, and attentive supervision of home practice.
