Karate

In Karate, students engage in physical, mental and emotional learning opportunities in a safe, fun and non-competitive environment.

They gain strength and flexibility. The Karate program develops and promotes coordination, self-confidence, discipline and respect for self and others.

  • What to expect

    Karate is a martial arts program for students in grades 1 – 5 that focuses on character development and physical fitness while students learn basic to intermediate skills. Classes are appropriate for students who are learning karate for the first time and for returning color belt students.

    Students are taught the traditional style of Shito-Ryu Karate through proper techniques, stances, movement, and concentration.

    Taylor Kaneshiro
    Head Instructor
    Sensei Taylor Kaneshiro has been a Karate at Punahou School for the past 14 years. She holds a 3rd Dan black belt in Shito-Ryu karate, is a 7x AAU National Champion, a 3x All Hawaii Women’s Kumite Champion, and a Senior PKF medalist.

    Kaito Price
    Assistant Instructor
    Sensei Kaito Price is a 2nd Dan at the IKF Hawaii karate school, a coach on the IKF national team and he has won  multiple national titles.
The admission of any student in the School’s extended learning programs is at the sole and absolute discretion of Punahou School in accordance with applicable laws. Admission criteria may be modified from time to time without notice by the School. Furthermore, students with past due billing accounts may not be eligible to enroll in these programs until their accounts are brought current. All payments made to the School will be allocated first towards unpaid Punahou tuition.
