Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these troubled times. While we are confident that our community will emerge from this period even stronger, the road ahead will be challenging. Some of you are already feeling the financial impact of this crisis, and we are committed to doing our very best to support you.

If you are experiencing financial hardship because of the COVID-19 pandemic, please know that we are here to help.

We are aware that certain employers, including the State of Hawaii, have predicted paycuts in the future. We are unable to award additional financial aid if the paycut has not yet happened. However we will accept updates throughout the entire school year, so if an income reduction occurs, you can email us at and we can give you further instructions at that time.

If you are updating a current application with new information, please also email us at as SSS does not alert us of new submissions.

Students are admitted to Punahou based on their potential to thrive, not on their family’s ability to pay.

The School offers need-based aid, taking into account many factors including income, net worth, standard living expenses, family size and the number of children attending tuition-charging schools (except graduate school.) Financial aid is not based on academic, artistic or athletic skills.

Currently, 24 percent of students receive financial aid with an average award of $10,950. Financial aid currently assists qualifying families with incomes from $0 to more than $175,000. Families with higher incomes who receive aid have an average of three children in private schools.

Financial aid is a priority at Punahou because it helps to create a diverse student body, representative of the Hawai‘i community, each member of which contributes to the learning experience of all Punahou students.

Applying for financial aid does not influence an application for admission. Admission to Punahou is need-blind and the decisions of the admission committee and the financial aid committee are made independently.
