Program

Swim School

The Swim School is open to swimmers in grades 2 – 5 who are at the Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced levels of swimming. Our program also develops and improves stroke technique for the four competitive swimming strokes, builds endurance and teaches racing skills such as starts and turns.

  • Beginner classes

    Can swim at least one competitive stroke for 10 yards. The main focus is to work on freestyle and backstroke.
  • Intermediate classes

    Can efficiently swim freestyle and backstroke for 25 yards. Swimmers in this level continue to work on freestyle and backstroke, and begin learning breaststroke and butterfly.
  • Advanced classes

    Can efficiently swim freestyle and backstroke for 25 yards as well as breaststroke and butterfly for 15 yards. Swimmers in this level work on all four strokes and are introduced to competitive starts and turns.

    Classes are available in 1 or 2 day per week options, Monday – Saturday. See the course catalog for specific times and fees.
  • Escorting

    Parents of grades 2 – 5 students should review the information about escorting.

Punahou Aquatics (PAQ)

Punahou Aquatics is a year-round competitive program for swimmers in grades 3 – 12.

Registration priority is given to current PAQ Swim Team students. New students interested in joining the Swim Team should email the PAQ office at paq@punahou.edu or 808.944.5835.

Note that this program is not related to the Punahou Athletics intermediate and high school teams that compete in the winter within the Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH).

  • Days, Times and Fees

    The team is divided into six groups based on age and ability.  One group will start at 3:15 p.m. and practice for approximately 1 hour. The other groups may start at either 4:45 p.m. or 6 p.m., depending on the time of year, for approx. one and half hours. Practices are offered every weekday – with some Saturdays and mornings – and competitions are generally held on the weekends. Swimmers should expect to swim in approximately one or two competitions a month depending on their ability.
  • Escorting

    Parents of grades 3 - 5 students should review the information about escorting.
