Beth Madinger Endowed Fund for Literacy

Beth Madinger was Punahou’s Coordinator of Audio-Visual Resources from 1974 to 1995, but she was always at heart a lover of books, reading and libraries.
Beth taught both her children to read, instilling in them her own deep love of reading. Visits to the library were a weekly occurrence, and books were ever present in the Madinger home.

Beth believed that when a child learned to read, vast new worlds opened up to them. She knew that for young children, acquiring the skill of reading leads the way to endless opportunities for learning, imagination and growth.

The Beth Madinger Endowed Fund for Literacy was established by Peter ’77 and Mary Madinger ’74 Balding to ensure that Punahou’s emerging readers have access to books, appropriate to each child’s level, in every classroom. With it, classroom teachers can be “librarians” of their students’ reading resources, guiding students on their path to literacy, and, hopefully, a lifelong love of reading.

The purpose of this Fund is to support K-8 literacy programs.
