Arnold’s athletic career can best be described briefly by encapsulating it in the following manner:
Punahou athletic performance 1967 – 71:

Letters: eight, in football (three), basketball (two) and track (three). Football: fullback, Junior Varsity 1967; Varsity 1968 – 70; All-Star Second Team 1968; All-Star First Team 1969 and 1970. The first Punahou back to wear and popularize jersey #44, he was the second top rusher in the league in 1970. Basketball: Starred on the 1970 ILH Championship Team; considered one of the best defensive guards in the ILH, Track: pole vaulter; rated second best in the State in 1971. Special Recognition: Billy Weaver Memorial Award in 1968 and Punahou Presidential Award in 1971.

College Athletic Performance 1971 – 75: Football; tailback; Michigan State University 1971 – 72; University of Hawaii Varsity 1973 – 74; UH team captain 1974; second leading rusher in league in 1974. While at MSU he took up Judo, and won second place in the 1974 College Judo National Championship Meet.
 
Professional Athletic Performance 1976 – 80: Kansas City Chiefs (National Football League); Hula Bowl All-Star Team 1976. A talented tailback, he was used also as a pass receiver and kickoff return specialist.

Lifetime NFL Record: Rushing: 956 yards (average 3.4); and 15 touchdowns. Pass receiving: 150 yards (average 7.8). Kickoff Returns: 133 yards (average 16.6).

Arnold retired from professional football at the end of the 1980 season to return to Honolulu where he entered the business world. However, it wasn’t long before he was asked to help coach ILH football teams. At Punahou he was the Junior Varsity backfield coach in 1987 and 1988. In 1989 he served as Varsity offensive coordinator, and in 1990 and 1992 as Varsity offensive backfield coach.

In 1983 Arnold embarked on a very successful political career when he was elected to the State House of Representatives. In 1985 he won the National Jaycees “10 Outstanding Young Men Award,” and was elected to the Honolulu City Council. Re-elected ever since, he served a term as Council Chairman. In business, currently he is on the managerial staff of the First Hawaiian Bank.
