Lei Knapp ’49 Rigg and Lani Knapp ’50 Sutton Endowed Financial Aid Fund

Lei Knapp (1949) Rigg and Lani Knapp (1950) Sutton were identical twins who entered Punahou in the sixth grade in 1943. Affectionately known as the “Knapp Twins” by classmates and friends, they embraced island life – hiking the trails of Nuʻuanu, paddling outrigger canoes, and surfing the waves of Waikīkī. Their infectious laughter, joyful spirits, and lifelong friendships left a lasting impression on all who knew them.

Their love for Punahou became a family tradition spanning generations. Lei was the proud mother of five Punahou alumni – Mark ’75, Scott ’76, Lisa ’79, Matt ’83, and Doug ’84 – and grandmother to six alumni and one current student. Lani was the mother of two alumni, Linda ’74 and Danny ’77, and grandmother to three alumni. Together, their families represent a legacy of more than four decades of Punahou graduates.

The Lei Knapp (1949) Rigg and Lani Knapp (1950) Sutton Endowed Financial Aid Fund celebrates the sisters’ deep affection for Punahou and honors the cherished memories, lifelong friendships, and enduring values they passed on to future generations. By helping deserving students access a Punahou education, the fund reflects Lei and Lani’s generous spirit and ensures that their legacy of joy, kindness, and opportunity will continue for generations to come.
