Kathleen H. Kagawa ’70 (Kathie) was truly an extraordinary woman whose accomplishments were vast and impactful. Among her many achievements, Kathie founded Hawaii 5-0 Properties, Inc. in 1989, served on the board of Hawaii Employers’ Mutual Insurance Company (HEMIC), and was appointed by the Governor to the HEMIC Oversight Council. She also held roles as a State of Hawaiʻi Real Estate Commissioner, a bonded mortgage broker, and a University of Hawaiʻi Foundation Trustee. For many decades, she proudly served as the Hawaiʻi state representative for the President’s National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C.
Kathie loved all her experiences as a Punahou student and her Class of 1970 classmates. Education changed her life and music was her passion. She was a member of Select Choir and credits her Punahou experiences for her success in life. She wanted to endow a fund that would support educational experiences and resources at Punahou promoting a greater interest and deeper understanding of Japanese cultural and language studies.
