Linette Lee Char

For the past 27 years, Linette Char flourished as an Academy Mandarin Teacher for levels I through V Honors. Her many career highlights include her involvement in the Junior School Language Program initiated over 10 years ago, pioneering the 1st Grade Chinese Language Classes. Linette’s efforts paved the way for other Academy Language Teachers to bring Japanese and Hawaiian Studies to Grades 2 and 3 shortly thereafter.
Linette exemplifies the word educator in the truest sense. With her keen intuition about her students, passion for teaching and mastery of her subject; she fosters an environment whereby students feel comfortable and gain confidence to be successful. Always optimistic and encouraging, Linette has high expectations of her students and her dedication extends beyond the classroom walls. The greatest compliment a student can provide is to pay the gift of learning forward. The Linette Lee Char Endowed Financial Aid Fund was established in honor of Linette’s legacy and her commitment to afford students, regardless of socioeconomic background, access to a Punahou education. Linette and her husband Andrew Char, have two sons, Jared Char ’10 and Cedric Char ’12.
