Esther Chan ’24
2024 Senior Awardee
Three graduating seniors from the Class of 2024 – Esther Chan, Connor Davidson and Reina Gammarino – were selected by their deans to receive PAA’s Senior Award, which includes a cash award of $1,000. The Senior Award recognizes graduating seniors who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, leadership and service to both Punahou and the community.
Described as one of the Class of 2024’s best and brightest students, Esther Chan amassed an exemplary record in and out of the classroom. In addition to excelling in the toughest curriculum possible, Esther interned with a meteorology professor at UH, established a coding club for students and traveled to Ecuador with Global Health Outreach. She is a passionate scientist who has competed in the National Chemistry Olympiad and served as a teaching assistant for AP Physics 1. For her Girl Scout Award, Esther developed an online class in cybersecurity for senior citizens, which she later turned into a thriving non-profit. Esther is “kind and humble and genuinely wants to do good,” say deans Jon Koshiba ’94 and Reet Ashford-Hirano ’74, and she is “truly making a difference for those around her.”
