The Buffanblu played for one another throughout the course of the season and their execution on both ends of the floor culminated in the school's first state title since 2012 over Kahuku, a team that routed them in last year’s final.

The Bears, ranked 10th in the ScoringLive/HawaiianElectric Power Rankings, punched their ticket to the final with a stunning 3-1 win over two-time defending champion and top-ranked Punahou in the late semifinal Friday night.

For three and a half quarters Punahou looked like it would cruise into the title game, but the Buffanblu held off a big 28-point fourth quarter rally from Moanalua to win, 75-69, to cap the Snapple/HHSAA Division I Boys Basketball Championships semifinals at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Punahou senior Hunter Hosoda matched a season-high 18 points as he and junior Duke Clemens led the Interscholastic League of Honolulu runner-ups with double-digit scoring in advancing past Lahainaluna, 50-40, in the quarterfinals round of the Snapple/HHSAA Division I Boys Basketball State Championships Wednesday evening at McKinley High School.
