Tennis

The Tennis School offers a wide variety of developmental programs that cultivate and challenge students of all ages and abilities. Group lessons emphasize a fun learning environment, development of fundamental tennis skills, and the promotion of good sportsmanship, while encouraging students to adopt tennis as a lifetime sport.

Program Dates for 2019 – 2020
Fall semester 8/19/19 – 12/18/19
Spring semester 1/13/20 – 5/16/20

Tennis is a fun and safe sport that allows students to get outside and get active. In addition to all of the physical benefits, tennis also builds one’s character through self-discipline, perseverance, and work ethic. As students encounter additional challenges through competition, players will learn to deal with adversity, manage mistakes, and develop creative problem-solving skills.

Developing fundamental skills in group lessons and engaging in organized competition is the best combination for students seeking to improve their game. Therefore, in addition to the group lessons, students in grades 3 and 4 are encouraged to participate in our twice a month, fun-based Saturday “Play Days” as an introduction to competitive situations. As they age up and progress, students in grades 5 – 8 are further encouraged to play on one of our “Team Punahou” Junior. Team Tennis (JTT) teams which meet on most Saturdays and provide a team atmosphere.

The program focus is on fun and gradual skill development as students elevate their game from beginning to more advanced levels. Students will advance to different programs based on individual progress, and specialized invitational programs are offered to eligible players. For those students who become more serious about the development of their games or desire a more personal touch, supplemental training is offered in the form of private lessons. Private lessons by our USPTA certified tennis faculty offer more individual attention to improve one’s technique, strategy, footwork, and more.
