Language and Culture

Wo International Center offers a variety of opportunities to experience language and culture at an early age.

Language and Culture in the Elementary School (LACES)

The Wo International Center offers an enrichment elementary language program (French and Spanish) which is open to students in grades K – 6 who are novices to the language.

Language and Culture Program (LACES) Dates for 2019 – 2020
LACES (French, Spanish) – Full Year 8/19/19 – 12/18/19

After School Language Program

This program provides a cultural and theme-based language environment that challenges students in age-appropriate ways to become capable and confident communicators through activities and play.

All communication is in the immersion languages for some parts of the day (gradually increasing over the year).

Students are placed in small groups, led by advanced Academy language students serving as teaching assistants under the supervision of a faculty member.

The program’s theme-based curriculum allows students to repeat the program, and is designed to allow students with more experience to gain leadership opportunities as they team with those new to the program.

Middle School Language Program

This Middle School program provides students new to the language or with a desire to supplement their current studies with additional exposure and instruction. The experience will involve fun activities, instructional lessons, and collaborative opportunities to improve one’s language competencies. While the class will not serve as a replacement for the Japanese or Mandarin classes offered during the school day, it can help to supplement a student’s curricular or heritage language experience.
