Registration

Registration for Summer School must be completed online. After registering online, payment must be submitted to the Summer School Office. Current Punahou Families will be billed on their student account. Students must be registered for the grade level they will be entering in the fall of 2019.

It is recommended that you review the course catalog, plan your your desired courses and note each course’s number before registration begins. It is also a good idea to have alternate courses in mind, should any of your first choices be unavailable.

For students in K – grade 5, please review and consider policies in the Summer School Handbook regarding Escorting and Lunch Supervision before selecting and registering for courses.

Out-of-State / International Students

English Proficiency

Punahou Summer School does not offer ESL (English as a Second Language) courses. It is required that all students have the ability to understand and communicate (i.e.; read, write, speak) in English at the appropriate grade level. This will ensure the safety of each student and enable your child to have a positive summer experience.

Hawai‘i State Department of Health Requirements for Schools

Students who are attending school for the first time in Hawai‘i (which include International, continental U.S. residents, and home-schooled students) must meet the State of Hawaii assessment requirements and provide a TB clearance that has been done within 12 months prior to the start of Summer School.

Students who have a TB form on file with Punahou School from a prior summer session need not provide a new clearance form.
All other applicants must have a U.S. licensed physician, NP, APRN, or PA complete and sign the Punahou Summer School 2019 Tuberculosis form provided in the online Summer School registration packet to confirm that the student is free from TB. The Hawai‘i Department of Health Form will also be accepted.

The following are acceptable forms of TB screens or tests.

  • Negative Risk Screen: for students who have been residing in the U.S. only.
  • Negative TB skin test (Mantoux): This test must be performed in the U.S. by a U.S. licensed physician, APRN or PA.
  • Quantiferon Gold blood test: This test can be performed in the U.S. and in most foreign countries. If the test is not performed in the U.S., results can be submitted to any Hawaii Department of Health Public Health Clinics or to a U.S. licensed physician who will provide a U.S. issued TB clearance.
  • Positive TB test and Negative Chest X-Ray: The chest x-ray must be performed in the U.S. by a U.S. licensed physician, APRN or PA.

Medical/Travel Insurance

We request that International and Continental US students have medical and/or travel insurance for the safety of their child and to ensure proper medical care.

Summer School Confirmations

Summer School confirmations for International students will be held at the Summer School Office in Bishop Hall for pick-up. Parents will be notified when packets are ready.

Providing local contact information is important in assuring the health and safety of your child. If you did not provide a local address and local telephone number on your registration, please bring this information with you when you pick up your confirmation.

Waitlists

Waitlists are processed as spaces become available, and applicants are notified of availability when an opening occurs. All waitlist registrations will be closed by May 13, 2019. Payment for waitlisted courses is due upon notification, and the schedule change will not be made until payment is received in full. Priority for Kindergarten spaces is given to applicants and accepted students for admissions and transition purposes.
