Trevor Schirman (1986)

Basketball, Track and Volleyball
2013 Inductee
If the seasons hadn’t over- lapped, Trevor Schirman might have been a standout football player, too. It was said that his size, topping six feet and 200 pounds in high school, made him an attractive prospect at tight end for the University of Hawai‘i.

The football team’s loss was the volleyball program’s gain. Although he didn’t crack the varsity squad as a freshman – he arrived at Punahou in the middle of a stretch of 10 straight state titles – Schirman would ultimately play on three state championship teams. He was named all-state from 1984 to 1986 and male athlete of the year as a senior.

A three-sport star who also lettered in basketball and track, Schirman was rated the top volleyball recruit in the country as a senior. At UCLA, he was named the NCAA collegiate freshman of the year en route to four varsity letters for the Bruins. He played on two national championship teams at UCLA, where he remains the school’s all-time leader in career blocks and ranks in the school’s all-time Top 10 in blocking average, kills and kills per game.
