Alvin Tauasu Harrington (1954)

Basketball, Football and Track
1980 Inductee
“Al” is famous for his athletic ability and leadership which in 1953 provided the spark to bring Punahou's 29 year football-championship-drought to an end. This was a fitting climax to a brilliant prep career during which he won ten letters (football-3, basketball-4, track-3), captained the 1953 championship football team, was named to the All-Star First Team in both his junior and senior years (halfback), established a shot put record, and was an outstanding basketball player.
This article appears as originally published in the Summer 1980 issue of the Punahou Bulletin.

“Al” continued his football exploits at Menlo junior College where he earned Honorable Mention to the Junior College All-American Team and at Stanford where he was selected All-Conference in his senior year.

Returning to Hawaii “Al” joined the faculty of Punahou where he taught math and coached football for many years. Always a gifted entertainer, he ultimately left Punahou to enter the entertainment field where he now excels – just as he did on the gridiron in years past.
