How We Buff ’n Blue

We Lead!

The Class of 2022 embarked on a bold initiative in the spring of their Senior year: to encourage as many classmates as possible to contribute to a new endowed fund to benefit Punahou students of the future.
Gift Chairs Iris Sloan ’22, Caitlin Yuen ’22 and Jenna Fujiwara ’22 displayed great leadership in coordinating their Senior Class gift campaign and inspiring their fellow classmates to support the gift drive. The three Chairs not only made generous gifts themselves, they also attended nine Senior Sing practices where they set up a festive station to collect gifts, handed out gift forms and encouraged class participation, resulting in an astounding 55 percent of the Class contributing, or 243 students! 2022 Senior Class Deans Christine David and Jonah Ka‘akua ’97 worked closely as advisors, noting that all of our students are the beneficiaries of a long history of philanthropy at Punahou.
The Class of 2022 had the highest participation rate among Alumni classes this year, with 55% of classmates giving!
Dean David explained that “this effort for a Senior Class Gift is significant because it encourages future classes to engage in the important tradition of giving back as they become alumni of Punahou. Their dedication is truly impressive, and we are so proud of them!” Dean Ka‘akua agreed, adding that “compassion for others and buff 'n blue pride are evident in this outpouring of aloha by the thoughtful, caring and STRONG Class of 2022.”
