Visiting Speaker: Maya Soetoro-Ng ’88

Punahou Communications Staff

Maya Soetoro-Ng ’88 inspired the Punahou community as the Chapel’s 2019 Kong Spirit and Health Speaker, teaching about inner peace, peace between people and peace in service to others.

Watch Maya Soetoro-Ng’s ’88 evening community talk about leadership for social change.

During the week of April 1 – 8, she spoke with students of every age during Chapel services and also led an evening community talk about leadership for social change. With her extensive work in the areas of peace education, connecting mind-body-spirit wellness, service and diversity, her perspective reinforces the importance of Social, Emotional and Ethical Learning (SEEL).

Soetoro-Ng is an advisor to the Obama Foundation, working closely with their international team to develop programming in the Asia-Pacific region. She previously served as director of the Matsunaga Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. She also co-founded Ceeds of Peace, an organization dedicated to raising peacebuilding leaders.

During her time on Campus, Soetoro-Ng shared many links to resources for further learning, which are included below.
