East Coast alumni bid aloha to President Scott ’70

President Jim Scott ’70 visited with alumni on the East Coast in November, during his last official trip to the area before he retires from Punahou in June.

Scott has been a steadfast supporter of Punahou Alumni Association during his 25-year term at Punahou and encouraged the expansion of the association beyond Hawai‘i. Punahou Alumni Association now has eight regional chapters across the United States and in Asia.

At receptions in Boston, Washington. D.C. and New York City, alumni, parents of alumni and friends of Punahou celebrated Scott and thanked him for his leadership, for creating a diverse student body and for his dedication to faculty.

In Washington, D.C., Punahou Alumni Association Mid-Atlantic members presented Scott with a U.S. flag flown over the U.S. Capitol in his honor, along with a certificate from the Architect of the Capitol. The gift was made possible by U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono and Nick Luna ’12, who works in Hirono’s office.

The aloha spirit and Punahou were omnipresent at all three receptions, as guests were greeted with orchid lei, and hula and Hawaiian music were part of the program. Caramel cuts, baked by the cafeteria and shipped to the East Coast, were served at each party, and guests toasted to Scott with commemorative wine glasses.

Scott’s farewell tour continues in California and Japan in February and March and wraps up in Honolulu on June 5. View the upcoming celebrations
