John Leong ’96

John Leong is an environmental entrepreneur with a passion for creating a more resilient Hawai‘i. He has helped develop Hawai‘i’s green jobs industry and founded Pono Pacific Land Management, LLC, the only comprehensive, private natural resource management company in Hawai‘i. In 2007, John co-founded the non-profit organization, Kupu, with his wife, Julianna Rapu ’97 Leong, to cultivate positive environmental impact by focusing on developing Hawai‘i’s next generation of environmental stewards and community leaders.
Kupu programs have hired and impacted over 5,000 young adults and generated more than $155 million in economic impact for the state. John graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2000. He serves on numerous corporate and non-profit boards and was named an Omidyar Fellow in 2015 and an Obama Foundation Fellow in 2019.
