The group started the day off by visiting the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center, “where we learned about how glaciers are made and how the current changing climate is affecting the Mendenhall glacier,” said Chase Fletcher ’16. “It was shocking to see just how much the glacier has receded in such short periods of time. The accelerated melting has caused the glacier to retreat almost two miles inland in the past 50 years. It was heartbreaking to see the devastating effects climate change has had on the environment.”

The group also visited Nugget Falls, received a short lesson on “glaciology” and visited a nearby glacier.
