The group arrived safely in Barrow, Alaska, on Sunday morning. "Our hosts at Ilisagvik College have made us feel at home," said chaperone and Academy social studies teacher Bill Waring. In the evening, they had a community potluck where everyone tried Inupiat delicacies, including muktuk (bow head whale), caribou and gravy, goose soup and salmon berries. Punahou students contributed fresh pineapple, which was enjoyed by all.

They also took a walk to a beach bordering the Arctic Ocean. "The view at 8:00 p.m. was breathtaking," Mr. Waring said. "The students were just a little bit excited to be standing near the top of the world!"
