Community Partnerships Workshops

Partners in Learning

A collaboration between Punahou School and Catlin Gabel School to support educators looking for innovative ways to connect their classrooms to the community. Using a framework of Design Thinking to support educators' exploration, participants create a project for their home classes.

Past Workshops

The 2015 Workshop, held in February at Punahou School, was facilitated by George Zaninovich, PLACE director and U.S. history teacher at Catlin Gabel School, Portland, OR, and Emily McCarren, then director of Wo International Center, Punahou School. The Design Challenge issued to participants: How might your local community become an important part of your students learning environment? How might you leverage community resources and partnerships to facilitate student learning?

The workshop included classroom observations, lectures and presentations, collaborative working time, panel discussions, speed learning sessions and take home lessons. All participants were given the PLACE Program curricular materials to take back to their home schools.
