Hawai'i Resources

  • Aloha United Way 211 : Aloha United Way 211 is a searchable online database of social service agencies in Hawaii. The list is compiled and maintained by Aloha United Way.
  • Helping Hands Hawaii : Helping Hands Hawai'i connects individuals, families and organizations with available resources, both human and material.
  • University of Hawaii Service Learning Program : University of Hawai'i Service Learning Program encourages civic responsibility among UH students through community service, guiding and supporting students in their community service activities.
  • Youth Service Hawaii : Youth Service Hawaii supports the efforts of teachers, students and community organizations in their development of service learning through programs that build capacity and a lasting infrastructure for service learning practice in the state.

Community Service (Volunteer) Resources
  • Action Without Borders : Action Without Borders connects people, organizations and resources to help build a world where all people can live free and dignified lives.
  • AmeriCorps : AmeriCorps the domestic Peace Corps, engages more than 50,000 Americans in intensive, results-driven service each year.
  • Citizen Corps : Citizen Corps is a broad network of volunteer efforts that harnesses the power of the American people by relying on their individual skills and interests to prepare local communities to effectively prevent and respond to the threats of terrorism, crime or any kind of disaster.
  • Corporation for National and Community Service : Corporation for National and Community Service engages Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service to help strengthen communities through AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and Learn and Serve America.
  • Do Something : Do Something offers extensive resources for educators and students who want to start or strengthen leadership initiatives at their schools.
  • Kidlink : Kidlink empowers kids and youth with free educational programs to give them better control over their lives, help them mature, get friends, create social networks and collaborate with peers around the world individually or through their classrooms.
  • National Senior Service Corps : National Senior Service Corps is proud of the more than half a million volunteers ages 55 and older who serve through the Foster Grandparent, RSVP and Senior Companion Programs.
  • Points of Light Foundation : Points of Light Foundation's mission is to engage more people more effectively in volunteer community service to help solve serious social problems.
  • USA Freedom Corps : USA Freedom Corps through its participating agencies and programs -- the newly created Citizen Corps, AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and the Peace Corps -- will work with local officials and community groups to offer expanded service opportunities for Americans at home and abroad.
  • Volunteer Match : Volunteer Match is the nonprofit, online service that helps interested volunteers get involved with community service organizations throughout the United States.

Service Scholarships and Awards
  • Congressional Award : Congressional Award promotes and recognizes achievement, initiative and service in America's youth. Includes online registration form.
  • Making a Difference : Making a Difference provides information on colleges and scholarships for individuals who are committed to community service.
  • The Giraffe Project : The Giraffe Project finds people who are willing to stick their necks out and take responsibility for solving tough problems, and commends them.
  • Presidential Freedom Scholarships : Presidential Freedom Scholarships is a program designed to highlight and promote service and citizenship by students and to recognize students for their leadership in those areas.
  • The President's Student Service Awards & Scholarships : The President's Student Service Awards & Scholarships are White House initiatives which recognize young Americans for outstanding community service, while encouraging more young people to serve.
  • The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards : (Search: Spirit of the Community Awards) The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards recognize middle level and high school students who have demonstrated exemplary, self-initiated community service.
  • SERVEnet.org : SERVEnet.org serves as an index and includes lists of a number of awards.

Special Days that Focus on Service
  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service : Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is a day to remember Dr. King by serving in their communities -- by making the holiday "a day ON, not a day off."
  • Join Hands Day : Join Hands Day brings youth and adults together to improve their own communities.
  • Make a Difference Day : Make a Difference Day is a partnership between USA Weekend magazine and the Points of Light Foundation that inspires and rewards volunteers.
  • National Youth Service Day : National Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world, engaging millions of young Americans and focusing national attention on the amazing leadership of young people.

Service Development Opportunities for Youth
  • America's Promise : America's Promise's mission is to mobilize people from every sector of American life to build the character and competence of our nation's youth by fulfilling Five Promises for young people.
  • Innovation Center for Community and Youth Development : Innovation Center for Community and Youth Development seeks, tests and promotes innovative concepts and practices, providing cutting edge tools for youth workers in diverse settings.
  • National Youth Development Information Center : National Youth Development Information Center is an online information system that focuses on youth development.
  • Search Institute : Search Institute is an independent, nonprofit, nonsectarian organization whose mission is to advance the well being of adolescents and children by generating knowledge and promoting its application.
