Boys Varsity Assistant Coach Darren Matsuda tapped for top post

Punahou School announced today that Darren Matsuda has been named incoming head boys basketball coach. Matsuda served as boys varsity assistant coach last season and, since 2006, has coached teams from the intermediate to varsity levels at Punahou. As head coach, Matsuda will oversee Punahou’s basketball program, including teams at the intermediate, junior varsity and varsity levels.

"Darren has great skills as a coach and mentor, and exhibits an exceptional work ethic," said Associate Athletic Director Kale Ane. "He's very familiar with our basketball program and students, and will be able to provide important continuity during the transition."

At Punahou, Matsuda served as the boys varsity assistant coach from 2008 to 2009, and intermediate boys I head coach from 2006 to 2008. Matsuda has also been very active in youth sports in Hawai'i. An attorney, Matsuda works as a commercial insurance agent/attorney at ACW Group LLC.
