Adventure Week Begins!

January 14, 2013

Punahou fourth-graders are beginning an exciting new experience as Na Pinao Adventure Week unfolds for successive classes over the next few weeks.

Students, teachers and Academy camp counselors kicked off the fun on Jan. 11, 2013, with an ice cream party after school. Adventure Week officially began for the first class today, with other fourth-grade classes taking their turns over the next few weeks.

Monday through Wednesday students will revel in team games and challenges on campus, enjoy learning opportunities at Gates Family Science Workshop, go swimming and hiking, and explore the community during field trips to interesting places such as the Bishop Museum planetarium. On Thursday, they’ll head to the North Shore for an overnight campout that will have them enjoying the great outdoors and developing their social, physical and intellectual skills. By the time the students return early Friday evening,
K – 8 Outdoor Education Coordinator Andrew Nelson hopes they will have strengthened their connections to one another and to Hawaii’s unique natural environment.

“This will be a life-changing experience,” teacher Jan Murakami ’86 Furuta told parents and students at an all-grade meeting in the chapel on Jan. 2, 2013. “We’re going to launch into our week with a true sense of adventure, and enjoy every step of the way.”
