A New Path to the Chapel

January 13, 2017

Trying to reach the Chapel area from Piper’s Pali or upper campus? A new pathway has just opened!

As building the Kosasa Community transitioned to Phase 1b last October, the familiar access to the Chapel area from Piper’s Pali was enveloped in construction boundaries, and students, faculty, parents and friends have been using longer routes to reach the Chapel, Luke Center for Public Service and the lower campus in general.

Thanks to creative suggestions from kindergartners and the work of Physical Plant carpenters, there now is a new temporary path. From the seating area on the makai side of Piper’s Pali, just above the Chapel, a gravel path now cuts through the foliage to a short set of steps down to the Chapel Office lanai, close to the PE Pavilion.

The temporary path is not ADA accessible, so those who require such access should still reach the Chapel or surrounding areas by entering campus at the Main Gate on the corner of Punahou Street and Wilder Avenue. These Chapel steps will be locked from dusk until 7 a.m.

Once the Kosasa Community is completed, permanent access will reopen. Meanwhile, spot the access point, now marked with a yellow sign along the roadway and a blue sign signaling the entrance to the pathway.
