    Twenty Punahou seniors were named 2018 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists in recognition of their exceptional academic ability and potential for collegiate success. The students earned high-ranking qualifying test scores that placed them among the top one percent of high school seniors nationwide.

    Punahou senior Carter Nakamoto has been named a 2017 Presidential Scholar from Hawai‘i. Nakamoto is among 161 high school seniors across the country chosen from a pool of over 5,100 invited qualifying graduating seniors. Another Hawai‘i student, Emily Yang of Kalani High School, was also named as Presidential Scholar.

    Punahou seniors Michael Chen and Eileen Liu have been named 2016 Presidential Scholars from Hawai‘i. Chen and Liu are among 160 students across the country chosen from a pool of 5,600 qualifying graduating seniors. Another Hawai‘i student, Joseph Fujinami of Mililani High School, was named as Presidential Scholar in Career and Technical Education.
