Wellness Activities

Punahou School attends to the social, emotional, and physical health and well-being of the entire School community. Faculty, staff and students are all welcome to participate in our well-being programs. All classes are on a first come, first served, space-available basis. Faculty, staff and students have first priority. In some cases, parents, alumni and members of the broader community may also participate.

Participants of any physical fitness/exercise class must complete Punahou School’s Physical Activity Participation Agreement, available online or from the instructor. Please complete and submit this form on or before your first day of class.

Fall 2017

Aerobics 101

This class is an energetic and upbeat aerobics class combining cardiovascular training and toning exercises with tubing and weights. A great total body workout for all fitness enthusiasts!

Time: Wednesdays 4:15 – 5:15 p.m.

Level: Beginner


Learn how to safely and effectively use weights, tubing and TheraBands to tighten and tone your entire body, working through a variety of upper, lower body and core exercises. No muscle group gets left out! Put your body strength to the test!

Cardio Tennis

This is a high energy fitness activity that combines the best features of the sport of tennis with interval training and cardiovascular exercise, delivering the ultimate, full body, calorie-burning aerobic workout. It is a very social and fun class for players of all ability levels taught by a tennis teaching professional.

Comprehensive Stress Management (EAP)

Complete a confidential self-assessment questionnaire, then meet one-on-one with an independent, professional EAP counselor (3 sessions) to review and develop a personal stress-management plan. Learn relaxation techniques, self-hypnosis, and guided imagery for stress reduction.

Heart Saver AED

Heartsaver AED is designed to teach CPR, use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). For Faculty and Staff only.


Our adult hula classes focus on basic hula steps, motions and "classic" dance. Beginning and experienced dancers are welcome!

Pilates is a strong, yet gentle form of exercise which assists the core muscles of the body to work effectively to support the spine. It encourages good posture, strength and flexibility. Pilates is non-impact and often recommended by medical professionals for people with back pain. The use of foam rollers, small balls and TheraBands allow for an additional level of difficulty and skill as the class progresses. All exercises are developed with modifications to make each workout safe and challenging at any level.

Weight Room – Stay Fit for Life

Get started on a "new you," utilizing weights, fitness machines and exercise. Develop a personal lifetime fitness program for strength, conditioning, endurance and good health. Partner with Troy Hotz and staff at the Hennrich Fitness Center who will provide you with personalized workout plans with 2-3 week training cycles, fitness testing and workout log reviews at the end of each cycle.

Yoga with Paula Crabb

Calm the mind and free it from distraction and distress. Learn basic Iyengar techniques and muscular actions to create a strong foundation for posture (standing, seated, forward bends, twists, inversions). Use yoga styles to practice relaxation, flexibility, strength and stamina through Vinyasa flow.

Yoga with Sarah Slater

All Levels Yoga Class (on Tuesdays) will teach you the basic hatha yoga poses and will move into a vinyasa flow style class (meaning it will involve dynamic movement through the poses) incorporating pranayama (breathing), meditation, and restorative yoga to help you quiet your mind, strengthen your body, and renew your spirit. No experience required, all levels are welcome. Mats and props are provided.

Zumba combines traditional Latin dance styles, including salsa, mambo, cha-cha, cumbia, reggaeton and merengue, as well as hip-hop and belly dancing moves and traditional group fitness workouts. Zumba can help you to build both muscle tone and cardiovascular endurance. These two benefits bring about a variety of positive health effects, including a lowered risk of developing hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and obesity. A dance background is not required. Come join the party!

Please consult with your physician if you are just beginning an exercise program or are significantly increasing the duration and frequency of your workouts.

For the safest workout possible, the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America recommends wearing comfortable athletic shoes with appropriate traction specific to the activity, as well as non-constrictive workout wear. Please consult with your instructor if you have questions.
