Continental U.S. and International Students

English Proficiency

Punahou Summer School does not offer ESL (English as a Second Language) courses. It is required that all students have the ability to understand and communicate (i.e.; read, write, speak) in English at the appropriate grade level. This will ensure the safety of each student and enable your child to have a positive summer experience.

Hawaii State Department of Health Requirements for Schools

Students who are not Hawaii residents (this includes International as well as continental U.S. residents), homeschooled students and Hawaii residents, who are not currently residing in Hawaii, must submit a tuberculosis (TB) clearance performed within 12 months prior to the starting date of Summer School. The TB test must be done in Hawaii or on U.S. soil, and meet Punahou School and the Department of Health requirements. Students who have a TB form on file with Punahou School from a prior summer session do not need to provide a new form.

Medical/Travel Insurance

We request that International and Continental US students provide proof of medical and/or travel insurance for the safety of their child and to ensure proper medical care.

Family Orientation

There will be a special orientation for visiting continental U.S. and International students at the Wo International Center on the following dates:

Summer School Session
Friday, June 16, 2017
noon – 1 p.m.

If you have any questions, please contact the Summer School Office.

We encourage you to bring your child to campus for the family orientation. It will be particularly useful to those of you who are unfamiliar with the campus and will provide you with an opportunity to become familiar with classroom locations, playgrounds, and drop-off/pick-up points. In addition, administrators will be available to address any special needs your child may require while they are on campus. After a brief presentation, campus tours will be led by teaching aides who are part of our summer staff. Teachers will not be present that day.

Summer School Confirmations

Summer School confirmations will be held at the Summer School Office in Bishop Hall for pick-up. Parents will be notified when packets are ready. Once notified, confirmation packets may be picked up at any time between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Providing local contact information is important in assuring the health and safety of your child. If you did not provide a local address and local telephone number on your registration, please bring this information with you when you pick up your confirmation.
