Driver Education

Driver Education is open to students in grades 9 – 12 (available to both Punahou and non-Punahou students). Punahou is dedicated to providing a student-centered, comprehensive Driver Education Program that provides students with a deep understanding of the challenges of driving.

  • Develop an understanding of the social and legal responsibilities involved with the operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Understand why laws are necessary on our roadways.
  • Develop decision-making skills to safely manage and execute the complex tasks of driving.
  • Learn maintenance procedures and practices necessary to keep a vehicle safe for the road and operating at maximum energy efficiency.
  • Understand the dangers of alcohol and drugs as they relate to driving.
  • Assist parents and guardians as their children embark on the driving process, a rite of passage from childhood to adulthood.

Punahou's Driver Education Program is taught by experienced instructors and covers the 30 hours of required classroom time to obtain a driver education student completion certificate. Information regarding required behind the wheel instruction will be given in class.
