Letter from the O-Men President

Department: Athletics

By Michael T. Pfeffer ’87, 2010 – 2011 O-Men President

The O-Men typically take the summer months off and then regroup in the fall to begin the push toward our annual Kona Safari and the Punahou Carnival. This summer was no exception, although I am quickly learning that, as a Punahou parent, there really is no downtime! I have been on campus a few times to pick up my son from his Summer School activities and it always brings back a flood of great memories. If you haven’t taken the time to just stroll through campus on a summer day, I urge you to take the time next year – a quick stop at the Lily Pond will restore your peace of mind.

Our meetings are on the first Monday of every month at noon. The Punahou Carnival is February 4 – 5, 2011, which means that our annual Kona Safari will take place on January 23 – 29. Picking avocados, citrus and other fruits in Kona, we collect thousands of pounds of produce to be sold at the O-Men booth at Carnival. It’s a collective effort by Punahou alumni, who volunteer and donate – everything from picking fruit to supplying trucks to ensuring transport to O‘ahu. For those of you who attend annually, please mark it on your calendars! For those of you who have never gone, this would be a great year to be a “Kona Rookie. ”

I look forward to embarking on my second year as president of this fine organization and hope that many of you will either continue to be members or will consider joining the Punahou O-Men and helping our great school achieve even greater heights.
