State Champions

Department: Athletics

On the evening of Nov. 23, 2013, the Buff ’n Blue made history with an undefeated season, winning both the ILH and state championships. The last time Punahou’s football team went unbeaten was in 1961, before the OHA-ILH split in 1970. Playing for more than 20,000 spectators in an adrenaline-filled Aloha Stadium, the team held fast on the gridiron. Finishing second in the state the past two seasons “magnified the importance of setting goals and working together,” said head coach Kale Ane ’71. “Not being afraid to get up after being knocked down twice takes a lot of heart and courage.”
