On Track For Success

2006 – 2007 O-Men president

The O-Men hosted two events over the past several months that I would like to highlight.

On April 19, after the Punahou vs. ‘Iolani game, we hosted a social that drew about 100 supporters, including athletes, parents and former players. Chris Eldridge ’87 and Brad Nicolai ’93 organized the food and drinks, and we all had a chance to eat, mingle, and embellish our high school glory days (I didn’t know Ethan Abbott ’72 batted .660 his senior year with 37 home runs!)

At the Punahou Relays, Andy Luersen ‘08 makes a dash for it as Doug Kilpatrick ’57 looks on.

We also hosted the Punahou Relays on April 28 at Alexander Field. Doug Kilpatrick ’57 and his team organized the entire event, bringing ILH, OIA and neighbor island schools together for an amazing day of track. (See more on this story at www.punahou.edu).
Daryl Sato ’65, Robby Ostrem ’65, Leighton Lam ’74, Eric Schiff and Carl Kim ’72 manned the concession stand. Meanwhile Clayden Jim ’59, Karl Carvalho ’72, Wendell Wong ’61, Scott May ’56, Mel Ing ’68 and their team of rookies (brothers Chris ’95 and Kevin ’02 Yamada and I) barbequed 100 lbs. of ribs for the officials and coaches from all participating schools. Doug Kilpatrick, Keith Cockett ’81 and friends entertained the crowd with wonderful Hawaiian music. All this would not have been possible without the support of Marcia Barrett ’74 Wright and her cafeteria staff. Thank you very much.

The last two years have been challenging but rewarding as we embarked on revitalizing the Punahou Athletic Hall of Fame. I would like to thank all of the O-Men board and members, and the Punahou’s athletic department and administration for their support and dedication. Chris Eldridge, it’s all yours now!

The O-Men will be taking a break for the summer and our monthly meetings will start up again in September 2007. If you would like additional information about the O-Men, please contact any of the Board members listed at right.

Aloha,

Rick Humphreys ’90
