Na Wahine Pa`ani o Punahou

By Noel Pacarro ’98, 2008 – 2009 Pa`ani President

Aloha to the alumni, membership and families of Punahou School,

Throughout the winter season, Carnival weekend and spring tryouts, one theme prevailed in the hearts of Na Wahine Pa`ani o Punahou: the total team effort. Whether one had the privilege to witness any of the state games of the varsity soccer team or experience the thrill of the girls varsity and mixed paddling champions on Maui, the spirit of Na Wahine Pa`ani o Punahou was on fire as our athletes banded together and fought for victory.

Even though most of the Pa`ani members were working the flower booth at the Carnival on that incredible weekend, we could feel the synergy all around us. It inspired us. We, too, came together and showed a great, total team effort! Riding on the momentum of our female athletes, we had a very successful Carnival, with approximately $8,000 in sales. What motivates us in our team effort? The hope that our athletes take their challenges, their victories, their team work, their tenacity and all the bonds they’ve established with their teammates and use these invaluable lessons throughout their lives to guide them and inspire them to be responsible citizens, caring parents, solid friends, visionaries, positive role models and engaged individuals.

Congratulations and heartfelt mahalo are in order after this epic winter season. So many great individuals came together for this total team fundraising effort. Orchestrating from the get-go: Sue Chouljian; at the booth 4 p.m. Thursday to midnight Saturday: Nedra Dwyer ’90 Manson and Kellie James ’01; the talented and gifted arrangers: Sandi Sheeley, Malia May ’84 Lageman, Kathy Kelley ’75 Carey and the crew; and all the members who worked a shift, who stopped by and who contributed to the cause! What an absolutely positive and uplifting effort on everyone’s part!

Mahalo again for everyone’s awesome support this past season. It was a ton of fun and a huge success for Na Wahine Pa`ani o Punahou!

Aloha,

Noel Pacarro ’98
