Varsity Football - San Jose

September 2, 2015

The Stanford Athletic Department hosted the team to an 'ono barbecue lunch near Maples Pavilion. Speaking to the boys was Luke Kaumatule '12 and a Stanford football captain, Ronnie Harris. Luke shared his personal story and urged the boys to "make the choice every single day to do great; move through each day with a sense of urgency." Ronnie reiterated much of Luke's message, saying, "Don't ever be afraid of failure. Know why you failed, so you won't do it again."

Later in the afternoon the team toured Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, where they were in awe of the state-of-the-art facility and the many interactive exhibits. Coaches and players alike were buzzing about it all afternoon.

In the evening, the team returned to Maples Pavilion, where the coaches ran the boys through a two-hour night practice under the lights at Stanford. It was a great chance not only to practice at night under similar conditions to what they'll face on Friday, but to work the kinks out after a long day.

The evening routine: dinner from Outback Steak House followed by a productive study hall and brief team meetings. Lights out at 12:45, ready for a packed day tomorrow at the University of California at Berkeley.
