Kumu Crew: The Civil War

April 30, 2016

I have always wished for a time machine, and today was a day I am happy to be a runner because I took a run back in time! After waking up I ran up the hill and came across a Civil War scene!

A campsite with fires burning and Confederate flags flying. A group of men loading a cannon. I then ran past the cave where General Cornwallis hid out and the Liberty Monument to commemorate the end of the Revolutionary War. It was the most exciting and fascinating run I have ever been on!

The irony is that we are now driving out to the Mattaponi and Pamunky reservations to visit with the indigenous people who were the first people to have their own stories of this area.
