Mālama Kumu in Aotearoa

The Mālama Kumu visited a local Maori radio station in Whangarei, Aotearoa. Kealohi was interviewed in both English and ‘olelo Hawai‘i about the value of mālama honua. Then, the crew sang “‘Oe e Ka La” on-air together.

Later in the day, Mālama Kumu crew visited Ta Kapehu Whetu, a school in Whangarei. Marion, who is a former crew member aboard Hokule‘a, shared the story of the ship’s 1978 journey and gave a copy of her book to the students. Boys from the school practiced a mele for the crew.
