Students in “Gyotaku: Connecting Science, Art, Ecology & Culture” returned from their fishing trip and the fish market with a variety of fresh fish, octopus, and even an eel! To prep their catches for printing, they washed them off, cut out eyeballs, and covered them in ink. “Some of the fish have patterns that go from [the body] of the fish through the eye,” says biology teacher Dr. Melissa Giresi as she skillfully scoops out a fish’s eye. “It’s really neat because it’s a form of camouflage.
