Science Education and Jet Propulsion

January 5, 2017

The Los Angeles G-Term trip is geared to better understand the lives and practices of those engaged in scientific research and education. Visits on Wednesday, January 4, took advantage of the unique resources in the LA area.

First stop was the California Institute of Technology. The students and faculty were hosted by members of the Admission Office staff, both Caltech grads, who gave them a tour of the outstanding science and engineering institute, known for its extensive research facilities. After lunch and an information session, the students headed to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of Caltech.

JPL is the leading U.S. center for the robotic exploration of the solar system. Students got to see a model of Rover and an actual replica in the garage at Mars Land. An exciting day for science students!
