There's Science in a Rose Parade Float

January 3, 2017

Students on the G-Term travel course, “A Science Journey through Los Angeles,” took a behind-the-scenes look at the 2017 Tournament of Roses Parade floats. The visit was facilitated by Rich Chinen ’76, past president of the Tournament of Roses, and Paxton Wang ’96, who works for the Tournament of Roses.

The group were able to see the floats up close and discuss the engineering, chemistry and botany that went into creating the incredible floats. The even got to go inside one! A great opportunity for the students to understand the work behind the parade that they would usually only see on TV, and to meet alumni who have been so closely involved in the overall production.
